Plush toy MOQ usually starts at 1,000 pieces because of fabric cutting and stuffing setup. Here is what drives the number and how to plan a first order.
Plush toy MOQ is usually higher than moulded plastic toys, and the reason is the production method rather than a sales policy. Plush is cut from fabric rolls, sewn, turned and stuffed, so a production run has to justify the fabric cutting setup and the sewing line time before it becomes economical.
Why plush MOQ typically starts at 1,000 pieces
For most plush items we quote a minimum of 1,000 pieces. Below that number the fabric cutting layout wastes material, the sewing line has to be reset for a short run, and the unit cost rises sharply. Moulded plastic toys such as outdoor game sets usually start lower, at around 500 pieces, because tooling is already in place.
What actually drives the number
- Fabric and colourways. Each additional colourway needs its own cutting layout and fabric order, so a three-colour programme may carry a higher minimum than a single-colour one.
- Size and pattern complexity. A large plush animal uses more fabric per unit, and a pattern with many separate panels takes longer to sew.
- Custom filling or features. Embroidered features, double-stitched seams and hypoallergenic filling are standard on our range, but added features such as a zip compartment change the sewing sequence.
- Packaging. A counter display box or gift box has its own print minimum, which can be higher than the toy minimum.
How to plan a first plush order
A practical first order combines two or three best-selling shapes in one colourway each, rather than six shapes in one colour. That keeps the fabric order simple and lets you test the market before committing to a full range. If you need a smaller trial quantity, ask about sampling first: a physical sample confirms materials, size and stitching before you place the production order.

- Is the quoted MOQ per design, per colourway or per order?
- Does the MOQ change if the packaging is standard rather than custom printed?
- What is the lead time at the minimum quantity compared with a larger run?
